People in our community partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to have a decent life. We deserve to feel strength and stability day after day. We deserve to know we have the power to take care of ourselves and build our own futures.

STRENGTH

A Habitat home is a strong foundation for a family, an opportunity on which they can build a better life.

Applicant families must complete 500 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build their own homes and those of their neighbors.

Families must complete classes including Budgeting, Understanding the Mortgage, Home Maintenance and Family Support.

Each prospective partner family undergoes an exhaustive application process verifying legal status, employment history, income verification, and both criminal and credit backgrounds.

Before closing on their homes, Habitat partner families make a $1,000 down payment and pay their first year’s insurance premium.

SELF-RELIANCE

Habitat homeowners receive financial education, help build their homes and pay a mortgage. Our work helps people help themselves, not meet an immediate need that will have to be met again.

Every donation helps a family help themselves. Donor contributions allow for the purchase of land and construction materials used to build homes.

Habitat homeowners make their mortgage payments in person each month at our office.

Habitat Collier has an all-time foreclosure rate of less than 1%.

Each Habitat community has a Homeowners Association made up of community residents who are supported by volunteers, staff, and a management company to maintain neighborhood standards.
