Community Foundation Awards $30,000 Grant for Affordable Homes
Naples, FL (September 20, 2024)– Habitat Collier has received a $30,000 grant from the Collier Community Foundation. The funds will go towards the purchase of building materials for homes in the nonprofit’s new affordable community, Majestic Place, in Naples.
The grant comes after the 2022-23 Collier County Community Assessment reported that 65% of respondents chose “controlling housing costs” as the top priority for community leaders.
“Affordable housing is foundational—for families and for the community as a whole,” says Habitat collier CEO Lisa Lefkow. “With costs skyrocketing, the need for affordable homes is greater than ever. This grant will help stabilize a family in our community who is struggling right now.”
In Collier County and across the country, people are feeling the squeeze of rising costs for basics like housing, groceries, childcare and more. Last year, Habitat Collier reports receiving about 24 inquiries for each of the 92 homes they closed, up from about 13 inquiries per home just four years ago. Many are forced to leave the area or resort to untenable or overcrowded living situations, threatening the stability of our local workforce.
The Collier Community Foundation awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process. Selected organizations receive grant dollars from the Foundation’s discretionary funds. These funds were gifted by donors who believe in the Community Foundation’s ability to mobilize resources to address the community’s greatest needs.
